What school did you attend, and when did you graduate?

UOP [University of the Pacific], 2001.

Where do you work?

Target Pharmacy.

Why did you choose this field instead of another (i.e. hospital, nuclear, hospice, etc)?

I don't have residency.

When did you decide to become a pharmacist?

When I was in Middle School.

Why did you decide to become a pharmacist?

I volunteered in a pharmacy when I was in Middle School.

If you had it to do all over again, would you still be a pharmacist?  Why or why not?

Yes, because of the knowledge and flexibility of the job.

Did the financial cost of pharmacy school scare you at all?  Why or why not?

No, because I was dedicated to become a pharmacist.  

What were the most difficult classes in your pre-pharmacy and pharmacy studies?

Pre-pharm: Organic chemistry and pharmacy: microbiology.

Describe a typical day at work.

Filling and verifying prescriptions, supervise staff, and provide consultations.

What are your responsibilities as a pharmacist?

Verifying prescriptions, supervise staff, and provide consultations.

What do you like most and least about being a pharmacist?

Like most: pay, like least: schedule-have to work weekends and holidays.

Was your perception of a pharmacist’s job accurate?  If not, what are the differences?

No.  The workload is overwhelming, there isn't enough help, and the schedule is bad.

What information about being a pharmacist do you wish you had known before deciding on this career?

Work conditions.

In what direction do you think the field of pharmacy and your area of focus are headed?

Lots of openings for hospice, nursing home pharmacy.

Do you have a family, and if so, do you have enough time to spend with them?

Yes.  Pay is good so you can choose to work part-time.  Bad, because you have to work weekends and
holidays.

What advice do you have for students interested in becoming pharmacists.

Go for it because it's a good career with lots of job opportunities, stability, and good pay.

Is there anything else you would like students to know about your career or the profession of pharmacy?

Volunteer or work in a pharmacy before deciding to go to this field.
